EVENTS BEHIND THE CURTAIN: THE SECOND GAMBIAN REPUBLIC (PART II)
|
When I see fellow African citizens, who do not know what transpired in The Gambia, from 1994 to date, defending the crumbling regime in the tiny West African State, it only makes me laugh. Knowing fully well what the APRC regime’s basket holds for Gambians, one should only ignore all such selfish Africans who only care about their own “bread and butter”. The most recent attack by an online newspaper about our article titled “The African Union Summit: Contradictions and Controversies” only makes me dig into the dirt inflicted upon our people by the ruling APRC with an even more guided precision. The indefensible can never be defended as the APRC regime is already a “rotten egg” that is stinking beyond reasonable grounds. I therefore thank the writer of that particular online journal for branding me as “educated but not informed”. Sooner or later, the voices of descent shall emerge victorious over a murderous, slanderous, brutal, and an unrighteous leadership in the tiny West African state. Our wider readership can judge fully well, as to whom such a premeditated and immature statement suits the most. “Birds of the same feathers always flock together” and one who therefore supports a regime stained with the blood of innocent citizens is a murderer and a blood tasty one as well. The current Gambian regime can never be good news no matter what development project it may undertake. Without wasting much time, let us now revisit the most recent events behind the curtains of the Second Republic, analyze for ourselves and see what it means for us as a people and as nation. Human rights lawyer Mariam Denton has been finally released with the voices of transnational civil society. This is a great development that shows the emergence of voices of dissent victorious. She was certainly detained for foolish and stupid reasons that the whole of humanity can ascertain. What has she done wrong that led to her illegal detention? How does such a peace loving and Professional lawyer pose a threat to state security? Someone must be insecure, paranoid, and uncertain somewhere. And we certainly know who this person is. Leadership according to social scientists takes not only courage and determination, but also humility, fairness, self-respect, and respect for subordinates. A leadership that lacks the above characteristic, and constantly abuses authority, with a total disregard for the wellbeing of the people is an evil leadership that deserves to be ousted. This is the type of regime we have in The Gambia and we must therefore take up the challenge for an inevitable regime change. Call us opposition, we will take it, call us educated but not informed, your credibility will be questioned, brand us however you may wish to do so, we could careless, because all supporters and advocates of evil and repressive regimes will have no room in this changing world; an undisputable norm of the 21st century. The day of reckoning is nearing and emerging voices of dissent will no doubt be victorious. This is the day when most shall go into hiding, a day when looters of our national coffers shall be exposed, and a day when those whose hands are stained with the blood of innocent Gambian citizens shall be brought to the fullest of justice. As the news of Mariam Denton’s release hit the international media and as her case was the talk across the civilized international community, concerned global citizens were stunned with the news of Major Kalifa Bajinka’s narrow escape from death. Major Bajinka, the former Presidential Guards commander and close confidant of President Yaya Jammeh, who returned from Nigeria upon completion of a one year Military course, was also accused of playing a part in the March 21 alleged attempted coup. Many are questioning about the credibility of the said alleged coup attempt, and how the army Major who was overseas then, could have gotten involved. Nevertheless, Bajinka’s escape from death is welcome news as he is a true Gambian citizen, who does not deserve to die in the hands of our evil foreigner turned head of state. One must therefore not be surprised, as this has always been a ploy of the regime, by falsely accusing opponents and influential citizens of a coup. Apart from Major Bajinka’s escape from death, another event behind the curtains of the Second Republic is the charges of treason brought against some former senior security officers. Abdoulie Kujabi, Vincent Jatta, Baba Saho, Foday Barry, and many others were last week charged with treason as they continue to languish in the central prisons of MILE II. What awaits them remains to be unclear, but many Gambians are confident that the most recent move by the Gambian authorities is a manifestation of an intention to silence them. A treason charge according to the Gambian constitution carries the death penalty if an accused is convicted. We only hope that our vampire will not take advantage of the constitution to strike one more time. The most recent event behind the curtains of the Second Republic is the diplomatic passport conundrum that involved a rebel leader of the secessionist MFDC in the Casamance province of the sister Republic of Senegal. This is shocking news as it is a manifestation of The Gambia government’s intention of destabilizing our peaceful Sene-gambia region. A newspaper in Senegal reported the notorious rebel leader Salifu Sadio was seen in the Ivorian capital with a Gambian Diplomatic passport. It is an alarming event that should make Gambians very cautious in our dealings with the ruling APRC regime. We must not let our country be used as a safe heaven for terrorists and terrorist groups whose soul objective is to undermine global peace and security. The MFDC faction under Salifu Sadio’s leadership is a terrorist group that should be destroyed at all cost, and it is a moral obligation upon the whole of humanity to assist in its total destruction once and forever. Finally to the online journal that has problems with our editorials, this writer is not a coward who hides behind the key board with a fake name. This writer is not fake, but a real and concerned global citizen representing the voices of truth and nothing else but the truth. I can defend whatever is written here at anytime and anywhere. This will be done with courage, determination, and will ever be committed to the righteous cause of ending the stupid culture of impunity in not only the tiny West African State, but across the civilize world. The editor can be reached at freegambia@gmail.com or bsminteh@allgambian.net. Never hesitate to draw the sword of truth for the helpless and the needy, so be sure to contact us at anytime. |
